May 8, 2012 - the day that North Carolina voted “yes” to hate.
The battle may have been lost, but the war is far from over. Civil rights have prevailed over hatred before, and one day they shall do so again. Let us not be meek in this time, but let us surge forward with the righteousness of Martin Luther King and Susan B. Anthony before us. We are in the midst of a new civil rights movement in this nation, and we will overcome our oppressors in the name of equality.
Well put! People are rigid in their positions because they are afraid of change and more so of being wrong. I shall fight on, make a stand, and someday this injustice will be overruled - at least on the surface - and I’m sure another will pop up. Oh humanity, how you never fail to fail….
Fuck you, North Carolina.
I don’t swear very often (unless I’m driving), but you deserve it.
That is all.
Well, actually I like about 40% of you.
But other than that I’m pretty pissed. There’s nearly a million people being selfish, petty, bigoted jerks.
And just…God humanity, really? REALLY?

Yes, m’dear white friends. That’s called the normativity of whiteness. That’s called white privilege. The idea that, in any given situation, someone is white unless they’re described as otherwise. Happens all the time in fiction. Wake…
It is sooth, truth.
Hallo. Bonjour.
I recently realized I haven’t been on here in a good while. Hither I am!!
How has everyone been as of late? To those curious about my own dealings, check my other blog at lewiswinter.blogspot.com. I had [have] a LiveJournal, but…yeah, it’s annoying for me, just trying to use that. Anyhow, I might be going to see a live local performance of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None - the only thing I’ve read by her thus far, although it was in the form of a play titled Ten Little Indians. We’ll see, I suppose, wot? I’m still not ready to “officially” publish any writings, I still need to teach myself guitar, and I am yet a novice to visual art. Still learning French and sometimes German. Starting - just barely - to finally get into fencing. Didn’t get into the most recent play (I auditioned, at least), but that means I have more of this scant thing called free time. And so on.
My crocodilian friend, Tinplate as I call her, has introduced me to the joys of Tom Waits. Thankee-sai.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a mother to call.
Toodle-doo! Love you all!

The art: Kehinde Wiley, Willem van Heythuysen, 2006.
The news: “Baratunde Thurston Explains How to be Black,” on NPR’s Fresh Air. Thurston is the director of digital at The Onion and the author of the new book, “How to Be Black.”
The source: Collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.
Note: Wiley’s paintings, which put contemporary sitters in poses borrowed from Old Master paintings, play with questions of self-identity and projected identity in ways that aren’t that different from Thurston’s comedy…

Exciting news! Persistence co-editor and butch storyteller extraordinaire Ivan E. Coyote has a collection of stories for young adults coming out this spring. The book’s called One in Every Crowd and it’ll be out in April.

“This looks awesome.” ~ “Indeed,” I say. “It does.” =)
Jonathan Coulton is wise.

maggie-leigh asked: Not to worry; not too long at all. Very lofty, detailed goals you have, though not too dissimilar from my own. When I mentioned percy I was referring to Percy Shelley... what is your relation? (and when I said that I hoped it was not too direct, I was actually thinking you were speaking of the traitor Percy Weasley, but then I saw the last name in the following line everything became clear to me.) I am an aficionado of Joplin myself (the Entertainer, in particular). We must sword fight one day!
Yes, I’ve been longing for a good sword-fight for ages! And I don’t rightly know - the theory lies on my mother’s side. I can play a good bit of the Entertainer (although I need a new teacher, as my great one left to finish college :P). I have a CD of SJ’s rags - would you like to borrow or have it? I’ve already put it on iTunes, so no need to return unless you want to. What sort of sword do you prefer? I like many, but especially rapiers. ;)
